Superman Unlimited #1 launches Dan Slott's Summer of Superman series

Superman Unlimited #1 by Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque arrives as a key title in DC's Summer of Superman, with a kryptonite-laden asteroid.

On 21 May 2025, DC launched a brand-new ongoing Superman title. Superman Unlimited #1, written by Dan Slott and drawn by Rafael Albuquerque, arrived as a centrepiece of DC’s Summer of Superman, the publishing push timed for the film.

What we know

The first issue opens on a big, classic note. The Justice League sends Superman to stop an asteroid the size of Metropolis from hitting Earth, but something hidden inside glows a familiar and worrying green. The arc, later collected as Kryptonite Kingdom, explores what happens when kryptonite stops being rare.

It was Slott’s first ongoing DC series after years on Spider-Man at Marvel, and DC teased it with a ten-page prelude in its Free Comic Book Day special on 3 May 2025. DC had laid out the Summer of Superman plan back in January, alongside the film’s July release.

Why it matters

Superman Unlimited found its audience quickly, and DC has since described it as one of four ongoing Superman comics. It’s a fun, Silver Age-flavoured entry point. See our Superman comics reading order, and for more on that green rock, Superman’s powers and weaknesses.
