Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow announced for July 2027
James Gunn announces Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to Superman (2025), with a release date of 9 July 2027 and David Corenswet returning.
At the start of September 2025, less than two months after Superman reached cinemas, James Gunn confirmed what fans had been hoping for. The sequel would be called Man of Tomorrow, and it would open on 9 July 2027.
What we know
Gunn revealed the title and date on social media with a piece of artwork showing Superman and Lex Luthor side by side. He would write and direct again, with David Corenswet returning as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex, and filming pencilled in for April 2026.
The pairing was the point. Within days, Gunn explained that the new story would push the two rivals into working together against a much bigger threat, a twist on their relationship that delighted comic fans.
Why it matters
It was one of the fastest sequel announcements in Superman’s film history, and a clear sign of confidence after the first film’s success.
