James Gunn's Superman wraps filming after five months

James Gunn announces Superman (2025) has wrapped principal photography, after shooting in Atlanta, Cleveland and beyond since February 2024.

On 30 July 2024, James Gunn posted the words every fan was waiting for: Superman had wrapped. After five months in front of the cameras, the film moved into post-production.

What we know

Gunn announced the wrap on social media, thanking his cast and crew and saying it had been an honour to make the film. Shooting had begun on leap day, 29 February, and the production spent around six weeks in Cleveland, Ohio, where the city’s streets doubled for Metropolis. Earlier in July, Gunn had said there were still a couple of weeks left after the Cleveland leg.

With filming finished, the work turned to editing, visual effects, sound and music. Later in 2024, Gunn added that he would shoot a day and a half of pick-up shots but stressed that there were no reshoots.

Why it matters

At the time, all fans had seen was a single image of David Corenswet in the suit. The first trailer was still five months away. The finished film arrived on 11 July 2025, and you can read all about it in our Superman (2025) guide or see where it sits in our DCU watch order.
