David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan cast as Superman and Lois Lane

DC Studios casts David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy after full-costume screen tests.

On 27 June 2023, the new Superman finally had a face. DC Studios cast David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.

What we know

The search had come down to a small group of actors who screen-tested in full costume and make-up in front of Gunn and Peter Safran. Corenswet, known for the Netflix series Hollywood and the horror film Pearl, emerged as the choice for the Man of Steel.

Brosnahan arrived with serious credentials. She had won an Emmy for playing the title role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a fast-talking, quick-witted lead that many fans thought made her a natural fit for the Daily Planet’s star reporter. Gunn was by now confirmed as the film’s writer and director, with shooting planned for 2024.

Why it matters

Looking back, this was the casting that defined the new era. Corenswet’s warm, earnest Superman and Brosnahan’s sharp Lois became the heart of Superman (2025), and both return in Man of Tomorrow. See where they rank among their predecessors in our guides to every Superman actor and every Lois Lane.
